- Shrine Board decides to implement long-awaited ropeway project

Jammu. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has decided to implement the long-pending ropeway project to make the pilgrimage more convenient and faster for devotees. SMVDSB's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Anshul Garg, stated, "The ropeway project will be transformative, especially for pilgrims who find the 13-kilometer steep climb to the temple challenging."

Addressing reporters in Katra, he announced, "The board has finally decided to go ahead with the ropeway project." Once completed, the project will cater to the growing number of devotees visiting the sacred cave each year. Last year, the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage recorded a new high with over 9.5 million pilgrims, Garg mentioned. He added that discussions on this project had been ongoing for years, and the board has now decided to move forward while ensuring improved facilities for pilgrims.

"The ropeway will particularly benefit elderly pilgrims and those who face physical challenges or are unable to use the limited-capacity helicopter services," Garg noted. Additionally, the board emphasized addressing the concerns of local stakeholders during the project's implementation.

Officials revealed that the ropeway will connect the Tarakote route to the main shrine area, Bhawan. The project has been meticulously planned to minimize environmental impact while providing pilgrims with breathtaking views of the Trikuta hills, enhancing both the spiritual and aesthetic experience. The ropeway is expected to transport thousands of devotees daily once operational, they added. The board aims to commence groundwork soon after finalizing the decision.
