New Delhi. Public sector State Bank of India (SBI) is planning to recruit 10,000 new employees in the current financial year (2024-25). The bank will make this new recruitment to meet general banking needs and to boost its technical capacity.
The Bank has made significant investments in technology to provide seamless customer service as well as strengthen its digital channel. “We are strengthening our workforce on the technology side as well as the general banking side,” SBI Chairman CS Shetty said in an interaction. “We have recently announced the hiring of approximately 1,500 technology people at entry level and slightly higher levels.”
He said, ‘Our technology recruitment is also on specialized jobs like data scientists, data architects, network operators etc. We are recruiting them for a variety of jobs on the technology side. So, overall, our current year requirement will be around 8,000 to 10,000 people. People will be added to both the special and general aspects. The total number of employees of the bank till March 2024 was 2,32,296. Of these, at the end of the last financial year, 1,10,116 officers were working in the bank. When asked about capacity building, Shetty said it is a continuous process and the bank retrains and upgrades existing employees to meet the evolving needs of customers.
He said, “Customer expectations are changing, technology is changing, digitalization is being widely adopted. Therefore, we are continuously providing new skills to our employees at all levels.' He said that the bank provides special skill development in some specific areas to meet the growing needs of customers and provide better banking experience. As far as network expansion is concerned, Shetty said SBI is planning to open 600 branches across the country in the current financial year. As of March 2024, SBI has a network of 22,542 branches across the country.
