Romanian PM want to see the European Union as a Superpower

New Delhi. Great Lakes Institute of Management Gurgaon, one of the leading management institutes in India, in association with CII and the Embassy of Romania recently organised International Roundtable Discussion themed India-EU Bilateral Ties: The Present & The Way Forward in a New World Economy at India Habitat Center. Dr Petre Roman, former Prime Minister of Romania was the Chief Guest.  Daniela Mariana Sezonov Tane, Ambassador of Romania to India, and Meenakshi Lekhi, former Minister of State for External Affairs of India were invited as the guests of honour at the event.

Dr. Roman expressed his views on the future of European union. He said, “I envision a future where the European Union emerges as a true superpower—not merely as a common market, but as a united body that promotes peace and cooperation in the world.” He further said, “India is on the path to becoming a developed nation, and I believe Prime Minister Modi embodies the courage, determination, and patriotism necessary for this transformation. Today, India stands as a pivotal player in the world, a beacon of hope for renewed global cooperation. I am confident that our country is poised to restore normalcy through collaborative efforts, paving the way for a brighter future on the global stage.”

While addressing the industry leaders, Daniela Mariana Sezonov Tane said, “We firmly believe that a robust rules-based trade system is essential for fostering fair competition, enhancing economic cooperation, and ensuring sustainable growth. It is crucial that we work together to establish clear guidelines that benefit not only our nations but also the global community. By reinforcing our commitment to these principles, we can pave the way for a more prosperous and equitable future for all."

Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi said, “ In considering India's role in today's world and our partnership with the EU, we see clear evidence of an upswing in trade and economic cohesion compared to the past. Europe's perception of India is evolving, which is essential for our mutual growth. India remains focused on facilitating business rather than engaging directly in it; our government’s role is to remove barriers and support entrepreneurs. In this era of polycrisis—where challenges abound—India stands as an island of peace, rooted in spiritual connection and universal consciousness. This positive outlook is the fundamental foundation of our nation."

Sharing his insights on India-EU ties, Dr. Jones Mathew, Principal, Great Lakes Institutes of Management, Gurgaon said,” The collaboration between India and the European Union is gaining more significance. This relationship has been shaped by values, democracy, innovation and sustainable development, and this conclave aims to further explore the opportunities for cooperation in India-EU relations.”

Chahat Mishra, Head of International Relations, Great Lakes Institute of Management shared his valuable on insights on India – EU bilateral ties and how Europe's idea about India has changed over the years.
