India should aim to change the mindset on quality



New Delhi. The two day symposium of IFQM concluded in New Delhi today with the keynote address by Hon’ble Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, urging that "all of us should make India synonymous with quality on the world stage. Our export competitiveness will not come from government subsidies or support. It is not going to come from closing the doors to the rest of the world. If we are to be a self reliant India, it will come when we realise that quality is not our job, it is our duty.”

 

Delivering the valedictory address at the IFQM Symposium in Delhi, Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, IFQM and Chairman Emeritus, TVS Motor Company, called the industry to join an important journey for building brand India. "We are trying to create a movement. Quality and customer satisfaction are the keys to IFQM. The leadership of the member companies and those who join can create the clusters of excellence in TQM. ".

 

In a panel discussion, Vivek Chaand Sehgal, Motherson Sumi stated, " People are critical in achieving quality in any industry. The ability to do anything, but with quality, is vital.".

 

Earlier, Mr. Punit Renjen, Global CEO Emeritus, Deloitte, delivered a keynote address on global experiences and India's imperative, outlining an outside-in perspective on the journey of nations that leveraged Quality, Innovation and Excellence to build and sustain global competitiveness and the imperatives for India. "I believe this is India's century. We cannot ape the West; India should do it in its unique way. This Quality initiative is the key enabler."

 

In a fireside chat at the symposium, Mr. Romal Shetty, CEO of Deloitte South Asia, and leaders spoke on the  Orbit shifting paradigms, drivers of innovation, role and readiness of leadership Business Models, approaches and methodologies that can help embed innovation in products and services. Mr. Bhaskar Bhat, Chairman, Vistara; Mr. Ramesh Ramadurai, MD, 3M Mr. Guruprasad Mudlapur, MD and President, Bosch Ltd and Bosch India participated in the session. Mr. Dilip Shanghvi, MD, Sun Pharma, participated in a panel discussion highlighting India's growing influence in the global pharma market, underscoring the importance of maintaining high standards. The panel critically evaluated India's vision for its pharmaceutical industry, outlining strategies to position India at the forefront of global health innovation.

 

Prof. Prem Motwani, Independent Consultant on TPM/TQM, held a session with Dr. Noriaki Kano, a Japanese educator, lecturer, writer, and consultant in the field of quality management for a deeper understanding of drivers of Quality and the role the leadership team plays in instilling a quality culture in organizations. He discussed with Dr. Kano the quality journey with products, production systems, and services – design and delivery during an interaction with 40 CEO/CXOs at the IFQM Symposium.

 

In his address to the delegates and participants at the IFQM Symposium in Delhi, Mr. K N Radhakrishnan, Member Governing Council, IFQM and CEO & Director, TVS Motor Company., highlighted, " IFQM can work on a collaboration with educational institutions. We are working with JUSE and other such institutes. There were many takeaways during the last two days, and at IFQM, we will analyze each of them and act."

 

At the concluding session, Mr. Soumitra Bhattacharya, CEO & Director, IFQM, highlighted the actionable insights and milestones Inspiration, Ideas, and Resolutions from the IFQM Symposium held in Delhi. He said, " IFQM was founded on seven pillars. We will soon have a groundbreaking ceremony for the IFQM quality institute outside Bangalore airport."  He added, "Membership of IFQM does not mean what I can get but what you can give back to the Nation. It has been set up to give back as per the Gurukal approach. It is a commitment to join the journey of Nation First." The eight founding members have come together to create momentum and be a force multiplier.
