Dhaka/Mumbai. Celebrated actress Jaya Ahsan, known for her versatile roles across Bangladeshi and Indian Bengali cinema, had a momentous 2023. The actress won her fifth National Award, her four films were screened at the IFFI Goa and one film was screened at the Moscow International Film Festival. Jaya has also carved her niche in Tollywood in the past 10 years, establishing it as a place she wholeheartedly calls her own. In 2013, Jaya debuted in Tollywood with Arindam Sil’s ‘Aborto’.
Jaya took a moment to contemplate the year that was and her aspirations for the upcoming year. Commenting on the occasion she mentions “It has been an exceptionally gratifying journey for me. I have had the privilege of being a part of exceptional films and portraying compelling characters that have propelled my career to new heights. I feel a deep sense of fulfilment as an artiste, knowing that I have crossed boundaries and successfully worked in India and Iran where my talent was appreciated. This year 2023 is special for me, for many reasons and releases of course. Nothing can be better for an artist than expanding her horizons. International Cinema not only offers challenges, it offers a wide range of opportunities as well. And one more significant thing is I got my fifth national award from our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Additionally, being part of IFFI with four films screened, was a delightful and gratifying experience for me.”
Jaya is also The United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) goodwill ambassador in Bangladesh. “As an actress, I hope to do a lot more work in every corner of the world. I didn't even take time to say yes to Kadak Singh because the director is Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and my co-star is Pankaj Tripathi. I have always wanted to work with Aniruddha and Pankaj. Working with them, and that too in my first Hindi film, doubles the joy. The film introduced me to a new family and space, bringing immense joy. My films from West Bengal also worked very well like 'Dawshom Awbotaar' and 'Ardhangini', both blockbuster successes and critically acclaimed simultaneously” said Jaya, who’s known for her work in films like ‘Aborto’ and ‘Bishorjan’, among others.
Jaya Ahsan's remarkable journey in 2023, marked by accolades, successful films, and a significant Bollywood debut, sets the stage for an exciting chapter in her career as she looks forward to new challenges and roles in 2024. Looking ahead to 2024, Jaya expresses her aspirations: "Of course, Bollywood is a significant platform for me, and being a workaholic, I aspire to take on challenging and complex characters. My heartfelt desire for 2024 is to find more enriching roles and embrace challenging characters in Bollywood” said an excited Jaya as she signed off for the moment.
