Six Indians in ICC's best World Cup team, Rohit in command

Dubai. Rohit Sharma was named the captain of the ICC best team of the tournament on Monday after the end of the ICC World Cup. In which six Indians including the best player of the tournament Virat Kohli have got a place in the eleven. India lost by six wickets to Australia in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, clinching their sixth World Cup title.

Rohit batted aggressively and fearlessly throughout the tournament for which he was highly appreciated. The Indian captain was the second most successful batsman of the tournament after Kohli, scoring 597 runs in 11 matches at an average of 54.27 with one century and three half-centuries. Kohli, who became the first batsman to score more than 700 runs in a single World Cup, scored 765 runs with three centuries and six half-centuries.

During the tournament, Kohli managed to break legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar's record of most ODI centuries with his 50th century in the semi-finals. The presence of more than half of Indian players in the ICC's best team of the tournament shows that even though India did not win the title, the hosts were the best team of the tournament, winning 10 consecutive matches.

Wicketkeeper batsman and vice captain Lokesh Rahul also got a place in the team. He was the eighth most successful batsman in the tournament, scoring 542 runs at an average of 75.33 with the help of one century and two half-centuries. Despite being out of the first four matches of the league stage, Mohammed Shami remained the best bowler by taking 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 in just seven matches.

ICC wrote on its website, 'Only four players in the history of men's cricket have taken more wickets than Shami's 55 wickets in the World Cup, which are Lasith Malinga (56), Mitchell Starc (65), Muttiah Muralitharan (68) and Glenn McGrath. (71) but Shami has taken these wickets in 10 less matches than the players ahead of him.

India's fast bowling attack leader Jasprit Bumrah, who was the fourth most successful bowler in the World Cup with 20 wickets at an average of 18.65 in 11 matches, has also got a place in the ICC XI.
