Nagaland gears up for ten-day 'Hornbill' festival

Kohima. Nagaland is preparing to host a 10-day 'Hornbill' festival to be held from December 1, in which all the tribes of the state will participate. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that this year Germany, America and Colombia are the official partner countries of this event. After a gap of two years, seven tribes of eastern Nagaland will participate in the festival. The Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO), representing seven tribes of the region, had backed out of the event in 2021 following the killing of 13 civilians during an anti-insurgency operation by security forces in Oting.
He had also skipped the event last year to emphasize his demand for a separate state comprising seven districts in eastern Nagaland. “We are grateful to ENPO for showing the unity of the Nagas and their willingness to participate with full enthusiasm in the upcoming festival,” Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along told reporters on Friday evening. The state government launched its annual tourism promotion program Hornbill. The festival has been declared the 'festival of festivals'. The event is held every year from December 1 to 10 in Naga Vitras village Kisama, about 12 km from the state capital Kohima.
This year will be the 24th edition of the festival and the first day will also be the 60th Statehood Day of Nagaland. The Hornbill festival brings together all the tribes of Nagaland displaying their culture and traditions.
