Government suspended 70 lakh mobile numbers

New Delhi. Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi on Tuesday said the government has suspended 70 lakh mobile numbers involved in suspicious transactions with an aim to curb digital fraud.

After a meeting on issues related to financial cyber security and rising digital payment frauds, Joshi said banks have been asked to strengthen systems and processes in this regard. He said that there will be more such meetings. The next meeting will be held in January. Regarding Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) fraud, the Financial Services Secretary said that states have been asked to look into the issue and ensure data security. He also said that KYC standardization of traders was also discussed in the meeting.

The meeting chaired by the Financial Services Secretary also discussed how to ensure better coordination among various agencies to prevent cyber frauds. Joshi said that there is a need to create awareness about cyber fraud in the society to save innocent customers from being cheated.

During the meeting, the Indian Cyber ??Crime Coordination Center made a presentation on the latest data on digital payment frauds reported in the National Cyber ??Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
