Cold increased in Kashmir, temperature in Srinagar reached below zero degree Celsius.

Srinagar. A day after getting minor respite from the cold, the minimum temperature at most places in Kashmir has reached below zero degree Celsius. Officials gave this information on Saturday. Meteorological Department officials said that except Kokernag in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, all the weather stations in the valley recorded night temperatures below zero degrees Celsius. Officials said the minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar was recorded at minus one degree on Friday night, while it was 0.9 degree Celsius on Thursday night.

He said that the minimum temperature on Friday night was one degree Celsius below normal. Officials said Pahalgam, a major tourist destination in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, was the coldest area in the valley as the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius. According to the official, the temperature in Gulmarg, another tourist spot in North Kashmir, was recorded below minus one degree Celsius. The mercury dropped to minus 0.5 degrees Celsius in North Kashmir's Kupwara, while the minimum temperature in South Kashmir's Qazigund was minus 0.8 degrees Celsius. Qazigund is also called the gateway to the valley.

Officials said the minimum temperature in Kokernag city was recorded at 1.5 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department said that the valley is likely to remain partly cloudy till November 28. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall in the high altitude and remote areas of Kashmir from November 29 to 30.
