The companies that have received import approval include Dell International Services India, Apple India, HP India Sales Pvt Ltd, Lenovo (India), Asus India, IBM India, Samsung India Electronics, Xiaomi Technology India, Cisco Commerce India, Siemens Ltd and Bosch Ltd. Are. The official said that so far 111 applications have been received for approval to import IT products.
Last month, the government had changed the restrictions on import of laptops and personal computers. After this, importers can import IT hardware from abroad by taking 'approval' on providing details of quantity and value.
The new ‘Import Management System’ aims to monitor imports of laptops, tablets and computers into the country without impacting market supply or creating a cumbersome licensing regime. “About 110 import permissions have been issued so far,” the official said. All major IT hardware companies have already taken this permission. All the applications received in this regard are being disposed of within the stipulated time. There is none pending till date.
The new licensing regime is applicable to laptops, personal computers (including tablet computers), microcomputers, large or mainframe computers and certain data processing machines to ensure India's reliable supply chain.
The government has imposed some restrictions on the import of laptops and personal computers to promote domestic manufacturing. Earlier there was talk of issuing a license for this but later it was limited to approval only.
