Owls worried before diwali

Dehradun. The Forest Department has issued an alert before Diwali in the forests of Uttarakhand. Apart from the protected areas, an alert has been issued in the forest areas where owls are present. Patrolling has been intensified to keep an eye on the activity of smugglers. In Uttarakhand, before Diwali, the activities of smugglers increase in the forests. The demand for owls increases due to legends and superstitions. In the greed of getting a huge price, smugglers go to the forests to hunt owls.

Actually, on Diwali, the price increases in the market due to Tantra-mantra with the owl's organs. It is said that owl's nails, eyes, beak and feathers are used for tantra-mantra. There is also a superstition among people to prove Tantra Mantra on Amavasya night. Owl is considered the vehicle of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. It is believed that Tantric rituals help in acquiring wealth. This is the reason why smugglers become victims of this superstition. They become active in the forests before Diwali. Due to smugglers hunting owls, their species is now on the verge of extinction. Every year before Diwali the forest department comes into alert mode.
