New Delhi. WTO member states should include the issue of cryptocurrencies in the negotiations on the e-commerce sector. The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) has suggested this. Experts believe that cryptocurrency can prove to be a good option for payment on e-commerce platforms.
GTRI said that now the crypto market is attracting attention at the global level. However, its classification under WTO's e-commerce framework is still unclear. It said the debate should focus on whether exchange of crypto currency falls under 'electronic transmission' under e-commerce.
GTRI Co-Founder Ajay Srivastava said the outcome of the ongoing WTO talks is important for global digital trade. He said the inclusion or exclusion of cryptocurrencies and the stance of influential countries will shape future international e-commerce policies.
