New Delhi. According to a report by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, a total of 4,61,312 road accidents took place in the year 2022 in which 1,68,491 people lost their lives while 4,43,366 people were injured.
The report titled 'Road Accidents in India - 2022' released by the ministry says that on an annual basis, the number of road accidents increased by 11.9 percent and the death rate due to them increased by 9.4 percent. An increase of 15.3 percent was recorded in the number of people injured in accidents.
According to the report, a total of 4,61,312 road accidents occurred in the country in 2022, out of which 1,51,997 i.e. 32.9 percent accidents occurred on expressways and national highways (NH). Whereas 1,06,682 i.e. 23.1 percent accidents occurred on state highways while 2,02,633 i.e. 43.9 percent accidents occurred on other roads.
According to the report, a total of 1,68,491 people died in road accidents in the year 2022. Of these, 61,038 or 36.2 percent people died in accidents on national highways, 41,012 or 24.3 percent died on state highways and 66,441 or 39.4 percent died in other road accidents.
