Such narrow-mindedness on Pakistan is not right: SC

New Delhi . The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a petition seeking a complete ban on Pakistani artistes coming to India to perform or work and asked the petitioner not to be so narrow minded. Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice S. V.N. Bhatti's bench said it was not inclined to interfere with the Bombay High Court order which had dismissed the petition filed by Faiz Anwar Qureshi. Qureshi claims to be a cinematographer and artiste. The bench said, 'You should not press for this appeal. Don’t have such a narrow mindset.

The top court also rejected the plea to strike out from record certain observations made by the High Court against the petitioner. The petition requested the court to direct the Central government to stop Indian citizens, companies, firms and associations from employing any Pakistani artiste, including cinema workers, singers, lyricists and technicians from Pakistan, or carrying out any work or performance. Complete ban on calling people, taking any service or entering any organization etc.

The Bombay High Court said that the permission sought by the petitioner from the court is an adverse step towards promoting cultural harmony, unity and peace and has no merit. The high court said, 'A true patriot is a person who One is selfless, one who is dedicated to his country. He cannot be like this unless he is a good person at heart. A person who is good at heart will welcome any activity in his country which promotes peace, harmony and tranquility within the country and across the border.' The high court said in its order that art, music, sports, culture, Dance, other such activities are above nationalism, culture and nation and they actually bring peace, amity, unity and harmony within the nation and among the countries.
